Lumbar Radiculopathy Symptoms

Lumbar radiculopathy symptoms will vary depending on the specific nerve root that is affected. The most common symptoms are tingling, numbness, and weakness in the legs. This indicates a problem with the nerve roots along the spinal cord. There is usually a pattern of numbness and pain caused by radiculopathy that is felt in the area of skin that is supplied by the particular nerve root (or roots) involved.

Sciatica is the most common symptom of lumbar radiculopathy. The pain from sciatica typically radiates from the back to the buttocks--sometimes all the way down to the feet. The more common symptoms in radiculopathy are sensory. When motor sensory symptoms such as muscle weakness are present, it may indicate a more severe nerve compression.

Evaluating Lumbar Radiculopathy Symptoms
Symptoms of lumbar radiculopathy vary from sharp to dull, from aching to burning, and from easy to locate to more difficult to pinpoint. Sometimes the skin may be super sensitive to touch. If any or all of these symptoms are present, you should see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis.
