Fibromyalgia Causes

Fibromyalgia is one of the most misunderstood and under-diagnosed conditions that affects the condition of the muscles. Defining the causes of fibromyalgia is an ongoing process. Many studies are continually conducted to determine the correlation between the intense muscle weakness and pain and other effects of the disease. With the pain level and fatigue that fibromyalgics endure, often the support structure of the spine--the muscles--is compromised.

While the list of causes of fibromyalgia is constantly updated, research indicates a strong correlation with autonomic nervous system dysfunction, viral or bacterial infection, chronic sleep disorders, and upper spinal cord injury. With pain being the main symptom, it is often difficult to work through this discomfort to maintain adequate muscle tone.

Fibromyalgia Causes Back Pain
One of the complications of fibromyalgia is the loss of spinal support, which often causes nerve involvement due to disc compression. In the case of fibromyalgics, extensive open surgery to repair damaged or injured discs is unthinkable. The pain of recovery, in addition to the already painful muscle tissue, leaves many fibromyalgics unlikely candidates for traditional surgical techniques. Because of this pain, many who live with fibromyalgia become even more incapacitated as their back symptoms increase.
