Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Fibromyalgia is a disease that affects many areas of the body, causing pain in the upper back, neck, chest, hips, elbows, knees, back of the head and other areas. The specific root causes of fibromyalgia are not well understood, but the condition is thought to stem from upper back injuries, alterations in brain chemicals, infections, and sleep disorders, among other factors. Symptoms of fibromyalgia are wide ranging and can change depending on activity level, stress level, weather, and time of day.

The main symptom is pain experienced when pressure is applied to the body in at least eleven different areas, called pressure points. Fatigue and disturbed sleep are also important symptoms. People with fibromyalgia tend to suffer from alpha-wave interrupted sleep pattern, a disorder that prevents deep restorative sleep.

Further Fibromyalgia Symptoms and Treatment Options
Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include irritable bowel syndrome, increased sensitivity to noises, light, odors, and textures, headaches and jaw pain. Additional symptoms associated with fibromyalgia are numbness in the feet and hands, mood swings, depression, anxiety, dizziness, chest pain and difficulty maintaining mental focus.

Fibromyalgia symptoms are typically managed through a specially designed course of physical therapy combined with medication. The Bonati Institute for Advanced Arthroscopic Surgery, located in Florida, is an internationally recognized center for patients suffering from chronic back and neck pain and has helped many patients with fibromyalgia related to spinal problems obtain relief.
