Ankylosing SpondylosisA chronic disease, Ankylosing Spondylosis is a form of arthritis associated with a class of rheumatic diseases called seronegative spondyloarthropathies. With AS, the joints of the spine grow inflamed. The body's immune system causes bone to grow between the vertebra, leading to stiffness and pain. Symptoms of Ankylosing Spondylosis include reduced motion in the lower and middle back and neck. AS can also affect the shoulders, hips, jaw, heels, and knees. In some patients Ankylosing Spondylosis affects the eye, causing the iris to swell uncomfortably. Known as iritis, symptoms include light sensitivity, eye pain and redness. Breathing problems may develop from AS as the torso curves and the wall of the chest becomes more rigid. Thought to be hereditary, AS is roughly four times more common for men than women and does not always develop into a serious condition. What to Do About Ankylosing Spondylosis Ankylosing Spondylosis can be effectively treated with a variety of means, depending on your condition. The Bonati Institute for Advanced Arthroscopic Surgery is one of the leading treatment centers for AS and other spinal disorders. For more information, visit the Bonati website at www.bonati.com. |
